‘Let every child plant a tree’

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: “Let us dedicate this year to make a cleaner and greener Arunachal’, stated Arunachal Pradesh Governor General (Rtd) J.J Singh while reiterating his stand to make a ‘clean and plastic free Arunachal’.

Addressing a meeting with the Principals and teachers from various schools of Itanagar and Naharlagun at Raj Bhawan here today, the Governor categorically urged them to evolve various modalities for generating awareness on sanitation and beautification of the area through involving school children.

Highlighting on the health hazards due to degradation in environmental cleanliness including open garbage disposal and pollution, Gen Singh asked them to take a vow to work as a ‘Team Arunachal’ in making a cleaner Arunachal. ‘Because of negligence and lack of civic senses and responsibility on the part of the citizen, our children would suffer from diseases’, he emphatically said, while pointing on disposal of garbages like plastic glasses and plastic water bottles on picnic spots and nearby rivers.

Appealing the teachers to take the responsibility to create awareness among the children and mobilize them to keep the environment clean, Gen Singh said that children are the best medium to create a change and bring revolution in the society. He added, the scenic natural beauty of the state should not be lost and called upon the school authorities to make a concerted effort to make the state of Arunachal Pradesh ‘clean and green’ to make it a real tourist paradise.

In order to sensitize the issue among the masses, the Governor further asked the teachers to conduct essay competitions for higher classes and painting competition at primary level on the theme ‘Clean Arunachal & Green Arunachal’ preferably before statehood day and send the best 10 essays and paintings to Raj Bhawan for further selection for printing of the best painting as ‘greetings cards’. He also called upon them to organize tree plantation programme to preserve and maintain the greenery of the state. ‘Let every child plant a tree, this would add a lot in future’, he stated. The Governor laid emphasis on town beautification programmes in the twin capital city as these being the showpiece of the state and called for a collaborative effort of all including administrators, officers of line departments, teachers, students and NGOs in taking up of the programmes and make it a planned city.

He further advocated on the need to take strong initiatives on garbage management and felt the necessity of dustbins at all strategic locations and proper dumping grounds, besides generating awareness among the people against use of non-biodegradable materials during outings.

On the occasion, Gen Singh also elaborated on rural development activities for socio-economic upliftment of the people and need to exploit the tourism potential in the state for sustainable development of the state, besides generating employment and income for the people. He specifically mentioned about the necessity of tourist resorts in the state and asked those present in the meeting to visit his pilot project at Poma to get a first hand information on how development activities could start in rural areas.

Among others, Capital DC Padmini Singla also attended the meeting.

On January 15, Governor General (Rtd) J.J Singh had conducted a similar meeting with the Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso, Commissioner UD Yeshi Tsering, Secretary Tourism Bandana Deori, Capital DC Padmini Singla, West Kameng DC Swati Sharma, besides Papum Pare ADC Tai Kaye and secretary to Governor Ankur Garg and called for a collaborative effort of all on beautification of the towns through various policies and measures to make it a planned city on the line of Gangtok in Sikkim.

Advocating on the need to take strong initiatives on garbage management, the Governor felt the necessity of dustbins at all strategic locations and proper dumping grounds on specific places for disposal of city garbage. He further asked the local MLA to involve the Panchayat leaders in creating awareness among the local people of their segments and educating them to do away with the garbage disposal problem. He also asked the Capital DC to intensify the movement through involving NGOs and student bodies in solid waste management activities. AAPSU president demands Spl package for Kurung Kumey

CHAMBANG, Jan 15: Officially acknowledged as the most backward district in Arunachal Pradesh by state Legislative Assembly in 2005, Kurung Kumey district is yet to see the light of development. The matter was vociferously raised by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) president Takam Tatung while attending the 4th general conference of All Palin Chambang Yangte Gangte Students Union as the chief guest today.

The AAPSU president demanded a special package for the Kurung Kumey and opined that the ‘fruit of development’ should be equally distributed in all the corners of state so that there is no room for complain from any quarter.

Pointing out the financial package amounting to crores of rupees for the department of Tirap and Changlang (DoTC), the AAPSU president questioned why the government is reluctant to provide the district its due share of development.

Informing that the perennial river- Kurung and Kumey can be tapped to generate hydropower, Tatung opined that with the harnessing of these two rivers for power generation, the unemployment problem could be assuaged to an extent.

Speaking on the over-rated tourism potential of the state, he said that the early opening of proposed Nyapin- Chayang Tajo road would give impetus to tourism development in both district of East Kameng and Kurung Kumey.

In his speech, AAPSU president also lamented that Chambang despite being created as Circle in 1980 is yet to have concrete road. He demanded the State government to take early initiative on providing a concrete road from Dari village to Chambang (47 km). He also urged the state government for electrification in the area and posting of teachers in the Chambang Secondary School. At present the School is being run by only three teachers comprising of a regular teacher and two SSA teacher.

Beside others, the general conference was attended by ANSU general secretary Nilly Likha Tabo as chief guest and All Arunachal Law Students Union president P. L Murtem as special guest.

Budum Lengn tracking expedition

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: Tribal Adventure Tours, a registered NGO will conduct a tracking expedition to Budum Lengn (Snake Stone) on January 19 next. MLA and parliamentary secretary, Industry, Nabam Rebia has sponsored the event. Besides Rebia himself, large numbers of trackers are expected to participate in the expedition.

The take off point of the tracking will be at Seteng village (15th mile) on Doimukh-Sagalee PWD road and will terminate at Taa Sea village near Toru (Sagalee) the same day.

The route of the tracking will cover both Horoh and Tanger hills, two of the important hills dividing Doimukh and Sagalee administrative Centre.

It is worth mentioning here that a similar tracking to this historic stone was organized by Rebia during his tenure as MP in 2005.

13th District Level SSA Meeting

PASIGHAT, Jan 16: The 13th District level committee meeting for monitoring of program implementation under SSA 2009-10 was held at the DC’s Conference Hall, Pasighat today.

While talking to the members of the house MP Ninong Ering stated that the Union Minister Kapil Sibal has taken lot of educational developmental plans to implement in the country. He also appreciated Education Minister Bosiram Siram for taking keen interest to achieve quality education in the state. He commented that the National Flagship Program SSA is being implemented in the district but shortage of teacher in Science and Maths streams in far flung areas of the district quite disappointing.

MLA Ralom Borang suggested that land donors should provide NOC while donating lands to the education department and the district authority should also take proper steps to avoid future complicacies and legal problems. He appealed the education department to establish more new schools besides upgrading the existing schools.

MLA Dr. T. Tapak was also present in the meeting appealed for upgrading of some schools of his constituency and urged the SSA functionaries to supervise and monitor the School-Grants, Maintenance-Grants and the Teacher-Grants provided to the school under SSA.

The DC-cum-DPD SSA Onit Panyang and DDSE-cum-DPO Marken Kadu also spoke on the occasion.

Ering visits remote villages

Meanwhile, MP Ninnong Ering visited Lising and Mising, the remotest villages of East Siang District. The HMP Ering also visited Parong and Yibuk,

While, interacting with the villagers MP assured to extend full cooperation to the people on communication, education and other developmental activities.

He further assured to take up the matters to education and transport departments, and also with concerned ministers for improvements of education and communication in the area. He announced five lacs for extension of community hall and one lakh for developmental activities to the Lising and Mising village respectively and further assured for construction of Helipad near the Mouling National Park at Mising.

2nd State Level Shito-Ryu Karate Do C’ship begins at Tezu

TEZU, Jan 16: Commandant 25th ITBP S Kothari has called upon the karatekas of Arunachal Pradesh, who had an in-born talent in this particular sport, to take up the art of self defence seriously to bring glory to the state and country as well.

Declaring the 2nd State level Shito-Ryu Karate Do Championship open at Tezu Jubilee Ground today, the Commandant advised the participants to take up karate - the oldest form of self defence - not only to satisfy their thirst for the sport but also to bring Arunachal in world map in the field of games and sport.

ITBP will award the best female participant to promote girl participation in karate, the Commandant informed.

J. Kri, who was the guest of honour, urged the karatekas to practice hard with dedication to achieve success in life.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. M Ete, president ASKA said that all the district level Karate associations are working hard and relentlessly in close coordination with their parent body for the promotion of karate in the state. He disclosed that Arunachalee karatekas have so far won four International, 37 National and five Zonal level medals.

Sodyong Kri, Secretary Lohit Karate Do Association also spoke on the occasion. The inaugural function was also attended by S Kri public leader, L. Tabiyo OC Tezu among others.

ASVS pleads for spl attention

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: Arunachal Shiksha Vikash Samiti (ASVS) secretary Nabam Ruja urged the Vidya Bharati Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan to give special attention towards Arunachal Pradesh for promoting scientific temperament among the students of this remote state. Rana was attending the two day meeting of Vidya Bharati, Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Sansthan at Surat recently.

He also informed the parent body that altogether 26 formal schools, 10 Ekalabya Vidyalaya and nine Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya are being run by ASVS.

The meeting attended by organizational secretaries of 11 regions, 58 eight state level secretaries and other karmakartas from all over the country, discussed on latest educational scenario and stressed was given on quality education development of social, moral and spiritual values of the students.

‘Misconception removed’

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: Nyishi Elite Society (NES) social interactive tour team lead by President NES Bengia Tollum arrived Daporijo yesterday.

Team had an interaction with senior members of the community at Daporijo where they discussed on social issue, especially on the celebration of Boori-Boot Yullo on the line of social ordinance issued earlier as well as on introduction of Nyishi Academic books as third language. During the interaction, the ‘entire misconception and wrong information were clarified’ with valuable inputs from the senior members of the community, said NES Daporijo convenor in a release today. Earlier they visited Dollungmukh on January 8.

Roads, education, garbage management appalling in districts

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: I just concluded my village to village journey along the road way in some parts of the central Arunachal, i.e. from Itanagar to Aalo via Likabali, Aalo to Daporijo and Daporijo to Itanagar.

During the interactive session with villagers, numerous problems confronted by them have been surfaced. However, the major issues are roads, education and garbage management in district headquarters.

The roads from Likabali to Bame and Potin to Hoj are pretty bad and bumpy at present though the repairing works are being carried out in some pockets.

However, some people expressed hope that initiatives have been taken by the government to renovate these roads.

The best part of the road connectivity, I have found during the tour is the connecting road from Bame, West Siang District to Daporijo, Upper Subansiri District (116 kilometers) which is maintained by BRTF. BRO deserves appreciation for their excellent performance.

During the tour, it has also been found that the garbage management within the township of Daporijo town is quite deplorable.

As the Minister, UD Nabam Tuki during the departmental review meeting held at Itanagar yesterday has also stressed on the importance of sanitation, sewerage and solid waste management and calls for work culture in the department. It is hoped that the concerned department and district authorities would strengthen their activities toward garbage management. However, without public and NGOs’ cooperation of the respective town and district, it would not be possible for the department to maintain a clean town.

In the education sector, most of the schools from Primary to secondary school levels have been found in dilapidated condition in West Siang, Upper Subansiri and Lower Subansiri districts.

Now, I think, these may be the reasons that force the students unions and other local unions of these area to frequently submit memorandum to the concerned department regarding shortage of teachers, furniture, text books and school renovation despite governments assurance to streamline the education sector in the state.

If we really want to revamp the education sector, we have to fulfill the basic needs of a school; particularly the secondary schools, otherwise it will remain as a dream for people and the government.

There may be fund constrain, but judicious use of fund and implementation of schemes with proper planning on priority basis would certainly ease off the problems which the education sector is confronting with.

PASIGHAT, Jan 16: Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya, Oyan is celebrating a three day long Utsargh Samaroh from January 16- 18 for the class X students of VKV- Oyan, Jirdin, Kuporijo and Banderdewa.

Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest in the inaugural day DC O Panyang advised the students to be sincere, honest, truthful, devoted, punctual and disciplined. He emphasized on moral and spiritual education, work-culture and ethics and wished them success in the forthcoming CBSE examination for a better educational life.

Book released

ITANAGAR, Jan 17: Oral literature of Mishings of Assam and Arunachal, a book written by Abani Doley, Assistant Professor, Bomdila Govt College, was released today at Murkong Selek College at Jonai. The book was released by Dr Bideswar Doley, president Mishing Agom Kebang.

SHGs to erect stalls in Pangsau Pass festival

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: In order to encourage and promote the products of SHG members, Seva Kendra, Miao will put up 5 stall of 15 SHG members to market their products in the forthcoming Nampong Pangsau Pass Winter Festival -2010 which starts from 20 January. All the SHGs are being sponsored by NABARD. Thousands of people are expected to visit the stalls since the expo is being organized during the Pangsau Pass Winter Festival.

This expo would enable the SHGs to come into contact with other agencies and learn from them different designs and packaging besides selling their own products, besides opening up the opportunity for them to understand the consumer preferences.

Cleanliness drive

ITANAGAR, Jan 16: Altogether 400 volunteers of NSS wing, NERIST has organised a day-long campus cleaning programme under the supervision of the Program Co-ordinator and Programme Officers today. The Volunteers cleaned various sections of NERIST residential area of the campus including Medical health centre and the playground.

Meanwhile the NSS wing has decided to organise a blood donation camp on Jan 23 in collaboration with the General Hospital, Naharlagun.
